On the 23rd April 2015, The Shires brought their successful UK Headline Tour to Doncaster’s Diamond Live Lounge. As soon as The Shires walked out onto the stage, the noise of the audience ceased to exist as all eyes focused on the duo. The audience knew they were in for a treat, and that’s exactly what they received.
Both Ben & Crissie know how to put on an exceptional performance, as It isn’t just the Country duo’s vocal diversity that’s helping to make them a household name. Their showmanship and their engagement with the audience excels each and every time. A fine example of this was “Tonight”, where the audience got divided into two halves to see who could outperform the other. Whether you’re Team Crissie or Team Ben, you know that you’re in for a real treat, as the atmosphere turns into one filled with joy and laughter.
Their song list for the evening included such hits from their debut album as “Brave” & “Friday Night”. Each song is well-written and performed to the standard that you’d expect from this Country duo. It isn’t just the song list or the stage presence of The Shires that makes you feel a connection with them as performers.”Made In England” makes you feel proud to be British, as you don’t need to be somewhere exotic to be happy in life when “There’s nothing like a Friday night fish and chips”. They prove that they’re just like you and I and that they’re not afraid to laugh with the audience or open up about their journey as artists. The duo on the night opened up about how they formed and what led them to write such songs as “Black And White.”
In the good old style of things, The Shires provided the Doncaster crowd with an extra treat. When it came to the encore, they didn’t just play one song but two. They had a request from a member of the audience to play “Islands In The Stream”. The request worked wonders as the harmonies of the duo were once again put to use, providing a melodic sound ever more to satisfy the ears of the audience.
The Shires are something unique. They’re rocking the very foundations of the Country genre and proving that Britain has got Country talent. With the phenomenal success of “Brave” their debut album, it’s just fitting that their tour mirrors that very element.
